The Korematsu Effect

How could it ever be proven that an FBI investigation into a terror suspect started the with person’s race or ethnic makeup? Are we at risk for the “Korematsu Effect”?

In April 2008, the Supreme Court decided the case of Virgina v. Moore. This case has been a rallying cry by civil rights activists that the Supreme Court has sanctioned racial profiling. David L. Moore , an African American, was arrested for…

Barack Obama: My Position On FISA

I want to take this opportunity to speak directly to those of you who oppose my decision to support the FISA compromise.

Chill on the constitutional arguments against immunity, they are baseless, and stand in opposition to a centuries worth of law. We indemnify government workers all the time — we indemnify agents working for the government all the time…

McCain Wants to Continue Bush’s Failed ‘War on Drugs’ Policy

One of the reasons John McCain says he is touring Colombia and Mexico this week is to underscore the importance of the “War on Drugs.” Just as McCain wants to continue Bush’s failed policies in the “War on Terror,” he wants to continue Bush’s failed policies in the “War on Drugs” as well.

The 'war on drugs' is in fact a pre runner to the 'war on terrorism' ..at its core (if the values of 'freedom, liberty and the persuit of happiness' actually mean ANYTHING ) Anti American … open license to…

July 1st, Record-Setting Drop in Student Loan Interest Rates

Both new and current student loan borrowers of certain federal Stafford student loans saw two interest-rate drops go into effect yesterday that could save them significant amounts of money on these fixed- and variable-rate student loans.

Unsubsidized Stafford student loans are unaffected by the legislation. Unsubsidized student loans are those in which borrowers are responsible for all interest that accrues, even if they're not currently required to make any payments on their…

The right’s game-playing with “anti-Semitism” accusations

Those who seek war with Iran endlessly exploit “dual loyalty” claims in order to promote their political agenda, while screaming “anti-Semitism” at political opponents who make the same claim.

Like everyone else, I don't know whether there is really any serious intent in the Bush administration to initiate some sort of attack on Iran (many very credible analysts highly doubt it will happen). But the risk is substantial…

McCain: I Never Said That I Dont Know Much About Economics

This week, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is traveling through Colombia, making a push for a free-trade agreement. In an interview with ABC this morning from Cartagena, McCain was asked about his now infamous statement that he doesnt understand economics well. McCain quickly interrupted the interviewer, denying he ever said this.

Inform yourself. He is not a one term senator. Nothing prepares you specifically for the office of the president. You are inaugurated with a willingness to settle in with an agenda in respect to the office. Its nice to know, regardless, that he…

U.N. investigator blasts U.S. justice system

After a two-week fact-finding tour of U.S. prison and detention facilities, Philip Alston, U.N. human rights investigator, has blasted the administration of President George W. Bush for a rash of shortcomings in the countrys flawed justice system and continued violations of the rule of law.

In fact, a Court of Inquiry into the incident proceeded in North Carolina. “Shortly after I returned from Afghanistan, the U.S. military released a short statement on this incident indicating that the commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces…

Thoreau: Routine War Degenerates the Army

“But when war too, like commerce and husbandry, gets to be a routine, and men go about it as indented apprentices, the hero degenerates into a marine, and the standing army into a standing jest.” No political statement intended, simply something to ponder.

Christianity ‘could die out within a century’ - Telegraph

Research by the Orthodox Jewish organisation Aish found that just over a third of people thought religions like Christianity and Judaism would still be practiced in Britain in 100 years’ time.

According to Religious Trends, an analysis of religious practice in Britain, the huge drop off in attendance means that the Church of England, Catholicism and other denominations will become financially unviable.

Are gas price sites causing you to spend MORE on gas?

While it's awesome to save 10 cents on a gallon of gas, if you've got to drive 10 miles out of your way, chances are you're burning up your savings simply by driving back and forth.

It’s probably unlikely that you’ll do this sort of analysis before you decide where to purchase your next tank of gas, however, it is something that you should probably keep in mind. Long story short, unless you’re…

Libertarians say Ohio ballot law too strict

The party has filed lawsuits against Ohio and Tennessee trying to strike down what it believes are unconstitutionally restrictive ballot-access regulations. The party’s primary goal is to get former Georgia congressman Bob Barr on the ballot in 48 states either as an independent candidate or under the Libertarian label.

A rule put in place by former Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell required the party to turn in more than 40,000 signatures 120 days before the presidential primary. That law was struck down as unconstitutional in 2006 by the 6th U.S. Circuit…

Bush Wrongly Credits McCain For ‘Working Hard’ on GI BIll

as Bush acknowledged the House and Senate members who came together to support the bill, he slipped in the name of one who labored to obstruct the bill — Senator John McCain. McCain was given the same credit as those who had steered the passage of the bill from day one.

Sane and rational people don't act like that. I think that goes beyond dishonesty. Apparently Dick Cheney has been our president all of this time. I still remember at Rumfeld's departure ceremony. Bush, president of the USA began to sit…

What’s in a Name: Is It Hispanic or Latino?

Is there a difference between “Hispanic” and “Latino”? Is it ever OK to call someone a “Chicano”?

U.S. Latinos share many traits, including similar experiences, values and viewpoints that generally unite them. They often–but not always–speak Spanish and carry a Spanish surname. Some are recent immigrants; many more are not…

California to Legalize Weed for Everyone

With enough signatures, Californians could be voting to legalize marijuana in the upcoming November election. They need 694,354 signatures by September, 5, 2008. It’s totally do-able. Its been over a decade since Proposition 215, the Compassionate Use Act of 1996, was passed with over 5 million votes in favor.

While this may insulate California consumers from state police, marijuana will still be illegal under federal law, and if one state were to flagrantly announce that it will violate federal law, DOJ would probably get involved in busting and…

McCain Launches “Truth Squad” With Swift Boat Vet

McCain publicly deplored the Swift Boat ads back in 2004, saying they were reminiscent of the smear campaigns launched against him during his initial White House run in 2000.

You now have TWO choices for president: The first one has one of the longest lines of political experience in history. He is exceedingly popular in congress. He was a soldier who volunteered to defend the United States in the Navy. The second one…
