14 Science Questions the Next President Should Answer

What exactly do John McCain and Barack Obama know about science? That’s what the folks behind Science Debate 2008 want to know, and to find out, they’ve developed 14 questions they sent to the candidates and hope to discuss with them at a science-only debate.

These questions SUCK ASS. I don't see anything here at all that couldn't or wouldn't be asked in a normal dull TV network moderated debate. WHERE ARE THE QUESTIONS ABOUT ACTUAL SCIENCE?!! How about “why do you think half the…

How does it feel to be aggressively interrogated

Christopher Hitchens found out for himself, submitting to a brutal waterboarding session in an effort to understand the human cost of Americas use of harsh tactics at Guantnamo and elsewhere.

Bright Young Hollywood The Jonas Brothers on the beach! The Gossip gang on the boardwalk! McLovin in … a tree? Mark Seliger photographs the class of 2008 as Krista Smith tests their tastes.

Want to know if waterboarding is torture? Ask Christopher Hitchens | World news | The Guardian

Hitchens, his head hooded, was subjected to this most terrifying of ordeals by veterans of the US Special Forces. Did the experience feel like torture? The “official lie” about waterboarding, Hitchens says, is that it “simulates the feeling of drowning”. In fact, “you are drowning - or rather, being drowned. Believe me, it's torture.”

So what did it feel like? Hitchens recounts how he was lashed tightly to a sloping board, then, “on top of the hood, three layers of enveloping towel were added. In this pregnant darkness, head downward, I waited until I abruptly felt a slow…

U.N. investigator blasts U.S. justice system

After a two-week fact-finding tour of U.S. prison and detention facilities, Philip Alston, U.N. human rights investigator, has blasted the administration of President George W. Bush for a rash of shortcomings in the countrys flawed justice system and continued violations of the rule of law.

In fact, a Court of Inquiry into the incident proceeded in North Carolina. “Shortly after I returned from Afghanistan, the U.S. military released a short statement on this incident indicating that the commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces…

Gallup: Americans Worry McCain Would Be Too Similar to Bush

- A recent USA Today/Gallup poll finds about two in three Americans concerned that John McCain would pursue policies as president that are too similar to what George W. Bush has pursued. Nearly half — 49% — say they are “very concerned” about this.

A recent CBS News poll asked registered voters what they thought McCain would do — continue Bush's policies, change to more conservative policies, or change to less conservative policies. A plurality of 43% believe he would…

Closer to war with Iran than anyone knows?

The man who broke the My Lai and Abu Ghraib stories says we’re closer to war with Iran than anyone knows.

During the Vietnam War, Hersh was the first to report on the My Lai massacre. He has been the recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, five George Polk Awards, two National Magazine Awards, and a dozen other prizes. He is also the author of eight books,…

Bits: Google and the Anti-Obama Bloggers

Google freezes, then unfreezes, a number of anti-Obama blogs, saying it was a mistake caused by e-mail spam.

The point is, people and groups should be free to publish and organize politically, including groups organizing on the internet to defeat Obama. Whether or not you agree with them, numerous Clinton supporters are angry with the Party and the media…

Memo to Obama: Moving to the Middle is for Losers

Arianna Huffington: “I can unequivocally say: the Obama campaign is making a very serious mistake. Tacking to the center is a losing strategy. And don’t let the latest head-to-head poll numbers lull you the way they lulled Clinton in December. Running to the middle in an attempt to attract undecided swing voters didn’t work for Al Gore in 2000.”

I think Obama has always been the most moderate of the Democratic candidates. I'm not sure that he is leaning so much to the middle. It is interesting, HIllary Clinton has always been more moderate than the extremists on either end wanted her…

New US Covert Operations In Iran Exposed

Late last year, Congress agreed to a request from President Bush to fund a major escalation of covert operations against Iran according to current and former military, intelligence, and congressional sources. These operations, for which the President sought up to four hundred million dollars, were described in a Presidential Finding signed by Bush.

You have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about, when you say, “we've passed the tipping point on oil production”, or that “supply outweighs demand”. It is true that more drilling will not bring prices down….

James Dobson vs. Barack Obama

Peter Wehner, a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and a former deputy assistant to President Bush, writes that the attacks on Obama leveled by Focus on the Family’s James Dobson fall terribly short of being fair and honest.

Dobson paraphrased this as "unless everybody agrees, we have no right to fight for what we believe in." But that's not what Obama was saying at all. Rather, he was arguing that in a pluralistic nation like ours, politics…

U.S Spy Bill Creates the ‘Infrastructure for a Police State’

The whistleblower at the heart of a lawsuit against AT&T for illegal eavesdropping says Congress is set to stage a ‘coup against the Constitution’ as it nears passage of a new spying bill. Former AT&T technician Mark Klein provided internal company documents that he claims show that AT&T spied on the internet inside the United States.

Absolutely no offense intended, @John Yoo, but when I buy my ticket and decide to stand on some street in DC, what do I do then? (… and which street?) We need to be organized about “this” but what is “this”? I'm…

TIME: Is Dobson’s Obama Hit Backfiring?

After years of attacking Democrats with relative impunity for their supposed moral failings, Evangelical leader James Dobson surely didn’t expect to suffer much of a backlash when he trained his sights on Barack Obama.

The website was the handiwork of a coalition of Christian leaders headed by Kirbyjon Caldwell, the Texas pastor and Bush family friend who led the benediction at George W. Bush's first Inauguration. The group came up with the idea for the site…

Schwarzenegger: McCain blowing smoke over offshore drilling

In a speech on climate change in Florida, the California governor diverged from his prepared remarks to blast supporters of offshore drilling.
America is so addicted to oil that it will take years to ween ourselves from it. To look for new ways to feed our addiction is not the answer.

I've admired Arnold for his dare to be different than your typical Repugs. I really enjoyed hearing his speech on Global Warming from Jan 9 2007 (video)…

Supreme Court Rules that Americans Have a Right to Own Guns

The Supreme Court says Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, the justices’ first major pronouncement on gun rights in U.S. history. The court’s 5-4 ruling strikes down the District of Columbia’s 32-year-old ban on handguns as incompatible with gun rights under the Second Amendment.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, straddling both sides of the issue, said merely that the court did not find an unfettered right to bear arms and that the ruling ''will provide much-needed guidance to local jurisdictions…

On FISA: Keith Olbermann and His ‘Blind Devotion’ to Obama

On January 31 of this year, Keith Olbermann donned his most serious face & most indignant voice tone to rail against Bush for supporting telecom immunity & FISA revisions. Last night, Olbermann invited Newsweek’s Alter onto his show to discuss Obama’s support for the FISA & telecom amnesty bill. There wasn’t a word of rational criticism of the bill

As but one example, John Cole was a vehement supporter of Barack Obama throughout the primary. He viciously criticized Hillary Clinton on a regular basis and raised tens of thousands of dollars for Obama's campaign through his blog. But this…

Senators To Government: Don’t Search Laptops At Airports!

Advocacy groups and some legal experts told Congress on Wednesday that it was unreasonable for federal officials to search the laptops of United States citizens when they re-enter the country from traveling abroad.

But Nathan A. Sales, an assistant professor at the George Mason University School of Law, said in a statement: “The reason the home has enjoyed uniquely robust privacy protections in the Anglo-American legal tradition is because it…

GOP/Congress/GWB to be served for not upholding constitution

There is a development unfolding that could very well become a “show stopper” for the GOP expecting the nomination of John McCain to proceed smoothly at the national convention. In 5 days, the GOP candidates, the president, and congress will receive Petitions for Redress demanding accountability for not upholding the constitution.

Won't you please consider committing to a $7/ month WTP Congress Membership so we can win the battle to restore Constitutional Order?

McCain staffer: “John McCain is aware of the internet.”

You sure about that? Backwards luddite and GOP nominee McCain admits to not knowing how to use a computer, but one of his staffers assures the Personal Democracy Forum that he is “aware” of the internet only to be slaughtered by John Edwards’ former internet director.

Christian Leaders Speak Out for Obama

Dr. James Dobson recently attacked Barack Obama for a 2006 speech that Obama gave on his Christian faith. Does he speak for you? A coalition of pastors and other Christians, lead by Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell are standing up for our Christian faith and supporting Barack Obama.

“Democracy demands that the religiously motivated translate their concerns into universal, rather than religion-specific, values. It requires that their proposals be subject to argument, and amenable to reason. I may be opposed to…
